Hi there guys! It rains because of a process called the Water Cycle ? The Water Cycle is the journey water takes as it circulates from the land to the sky and back again!

There are a few important processes in the water cycle:

Heat from the Sun ☀️ causes water on Earth (in oceans and lakes) to evaporate (turn from liquid into gas) and rise into the sky. This water vapour collects in the sky and becomes clouds! ☁️☁️☁️

As water vapour in the clouds cools down it becomes water again, this process is called condensation.

Water falls from the clouds in the sky when they blow over land. Water can fall as rain, snow, hail, or sleet. This process is called precipitation. ☔️ That’s how the rain falls!

The water ends up back in oceans and lakes then it can evaporate again and go round and round the cycle!

The Earth’s surface is covered by water, but almost 97% is salt water found in the oceans that we can’t drink so the water cycle is a really important thing for us!

        Hey guys!

Helena as covered loads there, but I will just add that it rains when the water droplets in a cloud get too heavy to stay there and then fall out of the cloud and towards us on the ground!

The Met Office made a jazzy video about rain if you’re interested:
