        Rain is mostly water, just molecules made of hydrogen and oxygen, but it can also contain pollution from the air.

        Have you heard of “acid rain”? This happens when rain contains pollution that has been emitted into the air from factories and cars, it can be very bad for trees and buildings when it lands on them. Sometimes if you see an old statue or a really old building like a church, some of the details might have worn off – this happens because the acid rain damages the surface of the statue or building.

        Acid rain is less of a problem than it used to be because we now have more strict rules about the kind of pollution factories are allowed to emit into the air.

        Rain also contains tiny little particles of dust. Sometimes you might notice that your windows of your house or car might be covered in a fine, red dust and this is due to sand from the Sahara Desert being blown into the air, travelling thousands of miles and then coming back down to earth in rain.
