        Hi guys!

El Nino is the name that people give to the warm part of a natural cycle that occurs in Pacific Ocean in the Southern Hemisphere. Because of this, it really affects people living in South America, Australia & New Zealand, and Southeast Asia.

The whole cycle is very complex and is something that scientists are still trying to understand, but it involves patterns of circulation in the ocean and the air.

During the warm part (El Nino) the temperatures over the eastern side of the Pacific Ocean (near Peru, Chile and Ecuador) are warmer than usual, and countries there also experience a lot of rainfall ☔ (which can cause flooding in places like Ecuador and Peru). In Spanish El Nino means “The Little Boy” ? or “Christ Child”. El Ninos happen every few years (between 2 and 7 years) and we had strong El Ninos in 1998, 2003 and 2010.

The opposite to El Nino is the cold part of this cycle called “La Nina” which means “The Little Girl” ?
